Huddersfield vs Preston Predictions

  • Huddersfield Town have seen under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six competitive matches.
  • Preston North End, meanwhile, have begun the Championship season with back-to-back goalless draws.
  • Only two of the hosts’ last six competitive games have featured goals at both ends.
  • Only one goal was scored in the sides’ two Championship meetings last season.

Terriers endure troubled start

Huddersfield Town have not made the most positive start under new boss Danny Schofield, losing each of their first two Championship games and managing just one shot on target in each. While Tuesday’s EFL Cup clash with Preston North End could offer Schofield hope of a maiden win, entertainment is certainly not anticipated.

Indeed, no Championship team has managed fewer than those two attempts on target from the Terriers this term, and their tendency to be involved in low-scoring encounters is not new; four of their last six matches have seen under 2.5 goals scored, with only two featuring goals at both ends.

Preston look likely to play their part in a drab affair after starting the season with back-to-back goalless draws against Wigan Athletic and Hull City, the former a newly promoted side and the latter having averaged under a goal per game in the Championship last term. Preston have now been shut out on four of their last five competitive road trips, the exception being April’s win at relegated Barnsley.

Low-scoring affair anticipated

Given both sides’ struggles in front of goal and the potential for changes to be made for this midweek affair, backing under 2.5 goals to be scored and opposing goals at both ends looks a smart play.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield did manage a 1-0 home win over Preston 12 months ago, going on to record a goalless draw in the return fixture, and another narrow win for the Terriers could represent a decent correct score prediction.
