Expect a cagey clash

Saturday’s League One clash between Huddersfield and Stockport at the John Smith’s Stadium has the makings of a tight encounter, with under 2.5 goals the recommended bet. The case is strengthened by Stockport’s recent run of three successive games with fewer than three goals, while four of their last five have also stayed below that mark.

The league table gives Huddersfield a slight edge. They are fifth in League One, three places above Stockport, with both teams having won more games than they have lost this season. The Terriers have six wins and three defeats from their ten games, while the Hatters have won four and lost two.

However, Huddersfield’s recent form has been inconsistent, with three wins, one draw and two defeats in their last six games, though they have been winners in four of their last five League One home matches. Stockport, meanwhile, are hard to beat – they have avoided defeat in five of their last six – and were 1-0 winners over Rotherham in their last away game two weeks ago.

That trend for low scores was evident in Stockport’s 1-1 draw with Reading, which kept up their recent run of matches with under 2.5 goals. The Hatters let a half-time lead slip in that game and have now failed to win two of the four games in which they have been priced odds-on this season. Three of Stockport’s four League One victories this season have been by one goal, and a 1-0 away win looks a decent correct-score bet.
