Ingolstadt vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions

Ingolstadt’s start to their 2016/2017 campaign under new coach Markus Kauczinski, who joined them from 2. Bundesliga side Karlsruher, hasn’t been particularly promising. Though Kauczinksi has vowed that he will not be changing much about the side moving forwards, with their main objective being survival, Ingolstadt are a “gutted” version of the side praised last season for their defensive prowess. The hosts are now without three key members of the back four who helped them end last season with the joint best defensive record outside of the top three: Benjamin Hübner, Danny da Costa, and Ramazan Özcan all parted ways with the club over the transfer window. Ingolstadt are in bad shape, taking just one point from their first three Bundesliga matches and losing 3-1 away to reigning champions Bayern Munich last time out.

Eintracht Frankfurt are, contrastingly, enjoying their best start to a campaign in four years, taking six points from their opening three fixtures. Last season’s 16th placed finish is a distant memory and Frankfurt are clearly playing with more confidence and a different mindset than last year. Frankfurt bounced back from a demoralising, against the run of play 1-0 defeat away to Hessen derby rivals Darmstadt with a 2-1 win at home to giants Bayer Leverkusen last weekend – a feat that would have seemed impossible just months earlier.

Something has to give at the Audi Sportpark on Tuesday, with the winless Ingolstadt hosting a “travel-sick” Eintracht Frankfurt. Ingolstadt are, surprisingly, the bookies’ favourites for the win at 23/20, a price we find way too short considering that Ingolstadt are without a win in eight Bundesliga games – a run that stretches back to April (D2 L6). Though Frankfurt have “poor away form”, we must consider their strong current form and the fact that they have beaten both Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen within their first three fixtures. Most of the results which contribute to their so-called bad away form are defeats from the end of last season where they faced Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, Borussia M’gladbach and Hertha BSC – that is, defeats against top six sides when Eintracht Frankfurt were struggling with relegation.

We expect that Frankfurt’s strong current form should be enough to break their bad run on the road and give them a decent chance to beat Ingolstadt competively for the first time. Eintracht Frankfurt’s price on the full time win is simply too good to pass on given their confident start to the season and, as such, Eintracht Frankfurt to win at 13/5 and Eintracht Frankfurt to win 2-1 at 11/1 with bet365 are our choice bets for this match.
