Iran vs USA Predictions

• The USA are winless in five games, with four of them ending as draws.

Stars and Stripes lacking firepower

The USA put in a stellar performance to hold Group B favourites England to a draw in the second-round of their World Cup campaign but they are now in desperate need of a win to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.

Gregg Berhalter’s side were excellent at the back and in the middle of the park against England but once again their lack of quality up front cost them. They have had just two shots on target across their two games so far and face an Iran side that will be desperate to earn the point that could send them through.

Transformed Iran bounce back

Team Melli’s 6-2 hammering at the hands of England in their opener certainly wasn’t the ideal start but they replied in perfect fashion against Wales, outperforming the dismal Dragons in almost every department before scoring two goals deep into stoppage time after Wayne Hennessey’s red card.

They had 22 shots in that game and looked a threat throughout, although with defeat sending them out of the tournament I expect to see a more reserved side on Tuesday, which perfectly suits Carlos Queiroz’s style of play.

Turgid bore-draw expected in Doha

Only two of Iran’s last ten games have gone over the 2.5 goal mark so backing the unders is recommended, although my main prediction would be for Iran to hold out against the Stars and Stripes.
