Slovenia 2-1

Reason for tip

Kazakhstan have scored and conceded in four of their last six games, including a 2-1 loss to the UAE in a November friendly. They have a good record of scoring at Astana Arena and last summer performed well against similar teams to Slovenia, such as Sweden and Slovakia. But the Hawks’ most recent friendly performances hint at a side perhaps running out of momentum while Slovenia still look to be on the up.

Benjamin Sesko To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Benjamin Sesko has scored in four of his last five appearances for Slovenia and five times in his last six club games. He scored a towering header and hit the crossbar with a similar effort in Red Bull Salzburg’s 1-1 draw with Altach last weekend.

Hawks’ home record suggests Slovenia should expect problems

Kazakhstan could give Slovenia some trouble on their artificial pitch in Nur-Sultan when the two nations meet to open Euro 2024 qualifying Group H on Thursday.

The Hawks had a great Nations League C campaign last year, winning all three of their home group games to secure promotion to the same level that was a bit of a struggle for Slovenia. Matjaz Kek’s men finished third in their section, but got stronger as the competition wore on after being well-beaten by a Serbian side that were flying high after qualifying for the World Cup.

Slovenia held Norway and Sweden to draws on the road and should not lose at Astana Arena as long as they handle the surface. Their key player will be teenage striker Benjamin Sesko, who is now looking more and more like the finished product at club level.

Sesko settling into international football well

He looks like a solid anytime goalscorer play at around 13/10 after plundering four goals in his last five games for Slovenia and five in six for Red Bull Salzburg prior to the international break.

The main bet recommendation, however, is to take both teams to score as Kazakhstan have scored at home in their last three games with both teams on the scoresheet in the last two. Both teams have scored in four of Slovenia’s last five internationals too.

A 2-1 Slovenia victory is the marginal preference over a 1-1 draw in correct score betting as Kazakhstan’s friendly performances hint at a side perhaps running out of momentum while Slovenia still look to be on the up.
