Defences on top at the Olimpico

Lazio and Napoli meet in an intriguing Coppa Italia last 16 tie on Thursday as two of Italy’s form sides face off.

Napoli lead the way in Serie A but Lazio are among their title rivals. The visitors claimed a 1-0 win at Torino at the weekend, while the hosts suffered a disappointing defeat at Parma.

However, Lazio are a real force at home and they haven’t lost at the Olimpico since March, a run stretching 16 games (W13, D3), and they’ve enjoyed some success in recent meetings with two wins and no defeats in their last three games against Napoli.

For those reasons, I’m leaning towards a Lazio win but the standout bet could be backing under 2.5 goals given the defensive strength of both sides.

The Biancocelesti have three clean sheets in their last four games overall and have only conceded two goals in total in their last five at home, while Napoli have five clean sheets in their last seven games and have conceded just one goal in their last six on their travels.

With home advantage, Lazio can grind out a 1-0 win in what is likely to be a low-scoring encounter.
