Leeds must learn from Boxing Day blow

Leeds will be looking to avenge their Boxing Day defeat at Deepdale when they entertain Preston at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

The lunchtime games can sometimes take time to bubble up, but there should be no lack of spice between these teams given the nature of North End’s 2-1 win the last time they met.

The game turned on a silly red card for Leeds goalkeeper Ilan Meslier, although Daniel Farke’s men had been struggling to break Preston down before that. Liam Miller was the outstanding performer on the day and it will be interesting to see if Farke puts extra emphasis on stopping the Canadian winger this time around.

Goals can come home with James

Preston’s away form is not great with the visitors having won two, drawn two and lost six of their last 10 Championship road assignments. And they have not been scoring many goals, drawing blanks at Leicester, Hull, Middlesbrough, Norwich and Sunderland during that sequence.

Travelling to another promotion-chasing side that have kept three clean sheets in a row does not augur well for Ryan Lowe’s team to get on the scoresheet here. Opposing Preston to score looks a decent play and comes in at better odds than backing a home win.

Leeds should still win if they maintain their recent clean sheet record with Daniel James of interest in anytime goalscorer betting because of his superb record of hitting the back of the net at Elland Road.
