Lille vs Amiens Predictions

  • In terms of points accumulated, Lille are currently Ligue 1’s best home team.
  • Only one team has conceded more travelling goals than Amiens in Ligue 1 this season.
  • Only two Ligue 1 teams average more shots on target at home than Lille this term.

Lille wobbling

Lille are enjoying a fine campaign, that cannot be denied, though they have had a slight wobble of late. Prior to France’s brief winter break, the side that currently sits 4th in Ligue 1 was battered by Monaco, conceding five goals on route to an untimely defeat. Christophe Galtier’s men did bounce back to beat lower-level opposition in the Coupe de France on Sunday, but they weren’t overly convincing, as they conceded twice and won by just a single goal.

Fortunately, Lille have been exceptional on their own patch this season. Winners of eight matches at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Wednesday’s hosts are, in terms of points, Ligue 1’s best home team. Not only have they won eight out of ten, but they’re also yet to taste defeat at home, scoring 18 and conceding just five in the process.

All in all, the home efforts of Lille, who’ve conceded in just one of their last five at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, bode well ahead of a match against an Amiens side that has often floundered on the road.

Away-does woes for Amiens

Amiens are having a poor campaign and it’s fair to say that they look in trouble. Wednesday’s visitors are currently inside the drop-zone and nothing in their recent form suggests that they’re on the up.

Playing on the road has been problematic for Amiens this term. They’ve struggled at times to impose themselves, but their main issue has been a lack of defensive solidity. Amiens have conceded a rather chunky total of 23 goals away from home this term. That’s an average of 2.3 shipped per game. Their total of 11 scored wouldn’t be too bad had they defended better but when put next to their conceded total it simply pales into significance.

Hosts all the way

In the betting, ‘Lille to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ gets the nod. Quite simply, Lille have outperformed Amiens this term and their home exploits have been considerably better than Amiens’ weak efforts on the road. With an average of 1.8 goals for, having scored multiple goals against bottom-half teams such as Bordeaux, Nimes, Strasbourg and St. Etienne, Lille are backed to score multiple goals on route to beating a side that has struggled defensively on the road. Not only have Amiens conceded multiple goals in each of their last five on the road, but they are also the second-worst team in the division when it comes to shots on target conceded.
