Lille vs Clermont Predictions

Lille searching for consistency

This year has very much been ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ for Lille, who won the title less than 12 months ago but at this rate will not even be playing European football next season after a disappointing campaign.

Games at Stade Pierre Mauroy have been particularly disappointing as they have netted just 15 times in 12 league games, failing to score in two of the last four.

Jocelyn Gourvennec’s side are hard to beat though. Five of the 16 they have conceded at home came in a 5-1 thumping to PSG, with only three of their last nine there containing in excess of two goals.

Clermont struggle for goals

Clermont head into this tie on the back of a 1-1 draw with Bordeaux and having won back-to-back Ligue 1 away games, but generally speaking their form in the final third has been poor.

Pascal Gastien’s side have failed to net six times away from home in all competitions, while only one of their last six on their travels in the league has included three or more goals.

At all venues, only three times in 10 Ligue 1 outings has one of their games featured over two strikes, so this may well be another low scoring affair.

I predict there will be fewer than three goals in the match, but expect Lille to pick up the three points, selecting 2-0 as a correct score prediction.
