Betis can make winning return to Europe’s top table

Former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini secured a return to Champions League football for Real Betis last term. They haven’t featured in this competition since 2005, when they shared a group with Chelsea and Liverpool, and they can make a winning return.

Betis have made a fine start domestically, picking up three wins from their first four La Liga matches. Each of those victories have been slender 1-0 wins, including Friday’s success against Real Madrid.

Hosts Lille fell in the last 16 in the Europa League last term, and home defeats were a real problem for them. The French side lost half of their home matches, including 1-0 defeats to Red Star and Aston Villa earlier this year.

The hosts handed Davide Ancelotti, son of Carlo, his first managerial role in Europe in the summer, and they saw both Ayyoub Bouaddi and Matias Fernandez-Pardo depart for the Premier League.

Lille could be vulnerable after those departures, so Betis appeal at the prices for another 1-0 victory.
