      Both Teams To Score

      Reason for tip

Chelsea have spent more than enough money to be comfortably beating third-tier sides when at their best but, in their current form and with Lincoln enjoying an excellent start to the season, they become hard to trust. Instead, siding with both teams to score, which has landed in seven of the pair’s last ten combined games, looks a safer play.

      Chelsea 2-1

      Reason for tip

Although it might not be easy, Chelsea can be expected to secure a place in the next round without the need for penalties. Their last loss to lower-tier opposition in the EFL Cup came back in 2008 and they can narrowly see off the plucky Imps.

      Lincoln City vs Chelsea Predictions

      • Lincoln have lost just one of their 12 matches this season, avoiding defeat in each of the last ten
      • Chelsea have gone three games without a win, losing each of the last two
      • The Blues haven’t been knocked out of the EFL Cup by lower-league club since being beaten on penalties by second-tier Burnley in the 2008-09 season

      Lively Lincoln can trouble Chelsea

On paper, a clash between League One Lincoln and a billion-pound Chelsea team will only end one way. However, the Blues have had a tough week and may find Tuesday’s trip to the Lner Stadium tougher than expected.

A poor week started when a late Fabio Carvalho goal cost Chelsea all three points at Brentford and culminated with a 2-1 defeat to a poor Manchester United side at Old Trafford, where Robert Sanchez’s fifth-minute red card did nothing to help matters.

Sandwiched between those results was a bruising 3-1 defeat at Bayern Munich and while usually an EFL Cup clash to a League One side would provide respite for a Premier League juggernaut, Lincoln are proving to be a tough side to beat.

Back Blues to concede against plucky Imps

The Imps are unbeaten in ten matches, have lost just one game all season and, having won eight of the fixtures in that sensational run, have every right to be dreaming of causing an almighty upset.

Enzo Maresca will ring the changes for this clash and while many of Chelsea’s bench players will be keen to make an impact, their defenders are not trustworthy enough to guarantee a clean sheet in Lincolnshire.

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in seven of the pair’s last ten combined games and should land again.
