Liverpool and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 27 matches at Anfield, winning 23 in that run, and should be too strong for Southampton, who have lost three of their last four games. However, the Saints have scored in their last 15 away games while the Reds have conceded in each of their last eight home matches, so back the visitors to net in defeat.

Liverpool 3-1

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in the last three meetings between these sides so it is definitely worth backing the Saints to score. Southampton have shown some weakness recently, especially when losing to strugglers Millwall in their last game, and Liverpool could put a few past them, especially if Darwin Nunez and other key players are fit.

Liverpool vs Southampton Predictions

  • Liverpool have won their last six home matches against Southampton by an aggregate score of 19-1
  • Saints have scored in their last 15 away matches
  • The Reds have conceded in their last eight home matches and let in two against Championship side Norwich in the previous round of this competition

Reds ready to continue quadruple charge

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool farewell began in the perfect way on Sunday as the Reds beat Chelsea 1-0 in extra-time to land the EFL Cup and keep any ambitious quadruple hopes alive.

However, there will not be too much time for celebration as Klopp’s men welcome Southampton to Anfield on Wednesday as they look to keep another leg of their quadruple leg alive, taking on the Saints in the last-16 of the FA Cup.

The Reds will be feeling confident too having been granted the home advantage for this clash as they have avoided defeat in their last 27 matches at Anfield, beating Mancester United 7-0 and Chelsea 4-1 in an unbeaten run that has included 23 victories.

Saints set to score on Merseyside

That is bad news for Southampton, who have lost their last six away games against Liverpool and have hit a rocky patch of form, losing three of their last four matches – suffering a 2-1 home defeat to lowly Millwall in the Championship in their latest outing.

However, it may not be all doom and gloom for Saints as Liverpool have shown vulnerability at the back in recent weeks and are in the midst of an injury crisis. The Reds have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight home matches, conceding to Luton, Burnley and twice to Norwich in that sequence.

That would suggest that Southampton, who have scored in each of their last 15 away games, should nick a goal at Anfield against a depleted Liverpool who suffered more injuries on Sunday to weaken their already-decimated squad further, even if eventually losing to their quadruple-hunting hosts.
