Tip Reasoning

  • Liverpool have won seven of their last eight league meetings with Southampton
  • The Saints have the Premier League’s worst away record in 2021
  • The Reds have won to nil in their last four home meetings with the Saints, scoring 12 goals
  • Sadio Mane has scored in five of his last six at Anfield

Perfect week for Reds

After back-to-back wins to nil Liverpool can complete a perfect week when they host Southampton this weekend. The Reds are unbeaten in their last 25 Premier League games kicking off at 3pm on Saturday (W22 D3) and they are heavy favourites to keep that run going.

The hosts are also in fantastic form against Southampton. Liverpool have won seven of their last eight Premier League games against the Saints, while the visitors’ woes on the road are a concern.

Saints not marching in

Southampton have lost 13 of their 17 away league games in 2021 (W2 D2), conceding 43 goals in this run at an average of 2.5 per game. The Saints have lost more games and conceded more goals away from home than any other Premier League side in this calendar year.

To make matters worse, Southampton are winless in their last seven away league games against Liverpool (D2 L5). They’ve also lost their last four at Anfield by an aggregate score of 12-0. Our predictions back another heavy loss for them here.

Mane to fire Reds to victory

Liverpool won 4-0 against Arsenal on Saturday before beating Porto 2-0 in midweek. The hosts have scored twice in all but one of their home games this season, only failing against league leaders Chelsea.

The hosts are also being fired on by not just Mo Salah, but also Sadio Mane. No player has scored the opening goal on more occasions than Mane in the Premier League this term (four times). He’s also scored in five of his last six at Anfield.

Liverpool have won by at least two goals in all of their league victories this season and Southampton have already lost by two goals at Chelsea and Everton. Back another disappointing trip to Merseyside for the Saints, with Liverpool -1 and a 2-0 correct score my predictions.

Liverpool predicted lineup: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Chamberlain, Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Jota, Mane

Southampton predicted lineup: McCarthy; Livramento, Bednarek, Salisu, Walker-Peters; Elyounoussi, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Redmond; Armstrong, Adams
