Lyon and PSG could serve up a thriller
Paris Saint-Germain head to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday night to face title rivals Lyon in what has the potential to be a classic encounter.
The visitors are the defending champions and they lead the way in Ligue 1, but Lyon sit well placed to challenge for the top prize in sixth place with just five points separating the top seven.
PSG are dealing with some key injury issues as Ousmane Dembele is expected to sit this one out and Nuno Mendes is also on the sidelines, while Corentin Tolisso is out fort the home side and both Abner Vinicius and Hans Hateboer are suspended.
PSG saw an eight-game unbeaten run ended in the Champions League in midweek as they went down 2-1 at home to Bayern Munich. The European champions should be able to respond against Lyon, who are winless in three, but a clean sheet for the Parisians looks less likely.
Lyon have scored in each of their last six games against PSG, losing the last five, and are yet to draw a blank at home this season. Les Gones have scored in 17 consecutive competitive home games stretching way back into the previous campaign and they can at least keep that streak going.
A 3-2 win for PSG is the correct score prediction as Lyon have scored exactly twice in three of their last four home games, while PSG have conceded at least twice in three of their last six games and their defence has looked a little suspect on occasion.
With Dembele likely to be absent, PSG will have to look elsewhere for their goals and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a contender for an anytime goal. The Georgian is yet to get off the mark for the season in Ligue 1 but he is getting chances – averaging 1.8 attempts per-game – and he’s managed two goals in three Champions League games. Kvaratskhelia has one goal and three assists in his last five games across all competitions and could end his wait for a domestic league strike this weekend.
