Lyon vs West Ham United Predictions

  • Both teams scored in the first leg, a 1-1 draw.
  • Both teams have scored in four of West Ham’s last six games and they have conceded in each of their last 12 away.
  • There have been goals at both ends in seven of Lyon’s last 10 games.

Little to separate Les Gones and Hammers

West Ham head to Lyon on Thursday with their Europa League quarter-final clash finely poised after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in London.

The Hammers managed to claim a draw in the first leg despite losing Aaron Cresswell to a first half red card, taking the lead through Jarrod Bowen before Tanguy Ndombele levelled matters for the French side.

Cresswell will miss the second leg due to suspension and Lyon could be without Ndombele as he is rated as a doubt with a thigh issue.

Both teams capable of scoring

West Ham head to France as the underdogs but the fact they held Lyon to a draw at the London Stadium means they shouldn’t be written off – particularly after dumping out serial winners Sevilla in the previous round.

This game looks evenly matched and extra time may be required to settle the tie, and with both teams in good scoring form backing both teams to score stands out as a good option for the main bet.

Both teams have scored in four of West Ham’s last six games and they have just one clean sheet in their last nine, while they have conceded in each of their last 12 away games.

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in seven of Lyon’s last 10 and in each of their last three at home, so we should see goals at both ends when these two sides meet.

Extra time on the cards

Lyon dominated the first leg and were arguably the better side even before Cresswell’s dismissal. However, the French side have found wins hard to come by of late – with four draws and just one victory in their last six games – so another 1-1 result looks to have a chance in the correct score market.

West Ham have lost each of their last five away from home but that run has included tough trips to Seville, Liverpool and Tottenham. With so much at stake, these sides may cancel each other out over 90 minutes and this last eight clash could well go the full distance.
