Macarthur FC vs Wellington Phoenix Predictions
- Macarthur won just one of their last six home games.
- Wellington Phoenix are unbeaten in each of their last seven away games.
- The home side on the day is yet to win any H2H clash (D1, L2).
Macarthur seek to exact revenge for their final day defeat, but is it that simple?
What an inaugural A-League season it was for Macarthur FC, they managed to sneak into the final series with just a one point advantage over today’s opposition in the final league standings. That defeat meant little as they made it to the semi-final before losing only to the eventual Champions, Melbourne City. Despite the positives, the fact remains that Macarthur picked up just 41% of their points last term at home, largely due to their innate tendency to concede goals – they kept just one clean sheet in their last seven home games.
Considering the latter, I am predicting yet another positive result for the away side in this H2H. Wellington will still be fuming about missing out on the play-offs last season and I predict them to take that frustration out on the pitch in search of back-to-back wins here at the Campbelltown Sports Stadium. Not only this, they picked up more than half of their points haul last season away from home, suggesting they are comfortable travellers.
All in all, I predict a high-scoring draw here as the flow of this game should benefit from the fact that it is the season opener – the possibilities are endless and there are no worries about permutations as there were in the last clash.
