A difficult run on and off the pitch
It has been a hard season so far for Macclesfield as they have faced plenty of trouble both in terms of what is happening on the pitch and what is happening off the pitch. While their financial plight is well publicised financial woes has caused plenty of concern, the Silkmen have been doing enough to keep their head above water in the league but are still far from secure.
The hosts are currently second from bottom, a position which this season would not see them relegated due to the plight of another club, Bury, and their expulsion from the Football League. With the visitors losing three of their last four league matches, however, things could be about to take a turn for the worse unless they are able to pull something out of the bag.
Keeping the pressure up
It has been an excellent few months for Exeter City as they have put plenty of points on the board and they go into this weekend’s clash with Macclesfield knowing that another three points will put maintain the pressure on the automatic promotion places. After several seasons of near misses, Exeter will be hoping that this is the season they finally make it out of League 2 and thus far, the signs are good.
The Grecians have had to come out of some recent troubles, however, as they lost two matches in a row and lost ground in the race for the title. However, they made the most of home comforts with a 2-1 win over Stevenage and a dominant 5-1 win over Oldham in the last week, so they will be fully expecting to make it three in a row with another three points this weekend.
A one sided affair
One look at the league table tells you everything you need to know about this fixture. On the one hand, you have a side who are challenging for the title, who have had an excellent week and who have scored plenty in their last two outings. On the other hand, you have a home side who have lost three of their last four league matches and who have claimed just six points from their last eight outings. With this in mind, backing an away win looks like the only move to make.
It is a tip which is also reflected in our correct score prediction. The hosts have typically tried to keep things tight and score an average of just 1.07 goals per game. Meanwhile, the visitors have scored seven times in their last two outings and kept a clean sheet in 38% of their away matches this term. With this in mind, backing a 2-0 away win looks to be the way to go.
