Can Mallorca save themselves?

Defeat this weekend could spell the end of Mallorca’s short stint in La Liga, depending on results elsewhere, but they have been far from easy to beat at Son Moix of late.

Javier Aguirre was installed as manager in March and both of his wins have come on home soil, against Atletico Madrid and Alaves.

It is certainly on the road where they have struggled, as from 18 fixtures at Son Moix they have picked up six wins and six draws, suffering just one defeat to a team in the bottom half of the table.

Rayo Vallecano have little to play for

Rayo Vallecano have saved themselves from a relegation battle in recent weeks after finally ending a lengthy winless run, but they head into this clash on that back of a 5-1 drubbing to Villarreal.

Andoni Iraola’s side have registered just three victories on their travels all season, and although two of them came last month, there is a feeling their form is tailing away again.

The Madrid outfit have suffered 11 away defeats, including to Levante and Alaves, the other two sides in the relegation zone.

Given how much is on the line, I fancy Mallorca to get a vital win in this one, so a home victory is my initial selection, with 2-1 to the hosts my correct score prediction.
