Tip Reasoning

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dream start to life as Manchester United interim manager continued on Wednesday with a 4th consecutive victory. This one was a little more subdued as they struggled to break down a resilient Newcastle defence, but a rare clean sheet in a 2-0 win was more than welcome for a side who have struggled desperately at the back this season.

The Red Devils have now won 4 matches on the bounce since Jose Mourinho’s sacking, scoring 14 goals in the process and bringing a warmly welcomed sense of excitement back to Old Trafford.

They are still yet to be tested properly under Solskjaer of course, with their newfound mettle being put to the test next weekend when they visit Spurs. However, Saturday afternoon represents another chance for confidence to be boosted ahead of a crucial tie at Wembley next weekend.

Reading aren’t coming into this difficult clash in the best of form either. In fact, they were subject to their joint worst defeat of the season on Tuesday as they were battered 4-1 at home to Swansea. This extended The Royals winless run to a disappointing 10 competitive games, with their last victory coming at home to Bristol City all the way back at the start of November.

Away from home you have to look a long way back into the 2018/19 season to find a Reading win. Their 1 and only away triumph came at Deepdale against Preston North End back in September. Since then they have drawn 5 and lost 5 of their 10 competitive outings.

Unsurprisingly, this leaves them in a worrying place in terms of the Championship table. They are 23rd in the league, 5 points adrift of safety and with survival as their top priority. That being said, they are unlikely to even think about resting players in such a huge FA Cup clash.

For obvious reasons, we’re expecting another Manchester United win. They are looking confident right now and the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku are expected to start on Saturday, while 17 year old Mason Greenwood has reportedly been told he’ll be making his debut. They face a side who are coming into the game on the back of a 4-1 thrashing, and we wouldn’t rule out a similar scoreline on Saturday.

In fact, with Solskjaer’s Manchester United side averaging 4.25 goals in each game, we think backing a Manchester United Win and Over 3.5 Goals alongside a 4-1 correct score predictions is a good idea.
