Le Classique mismatch

This Le Classique looks about as big as mismatch as the fixture has produced in a few years as runaway leaders PSG head to the Velodrome to take on seventh-placed Marseille.

Les Phoceens had won three consecutive league games to put themselves back into Champions League contention before a 2-0 defeat at Rennes just prior to the international break.

They head to Lille after hosting Luis Enrique’s side and could be back among the also rans if they don’t win one of the two games. It looks like Marseille’s new manager bounce has gone now after back-to-back losses under Jean-Louis Gasset, who gave them a big lift upon his arrival in February.

Mbappe will make his mark again

Marseille won five games in a row and thrashed Villarreal 4-0 in the Europa League to really get the fans excited and then things took a step backwards in the last two losses.

PSG are purring right now with Kylian Mbappe on a scoring run that should frighten any Marseille fan. He scored twice in his side’s 3-0 win at the Velodrome last season and bagged a hat-trick in his last club game – a 6-2 romp down the coast at Montpellier.

But, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in decent form, Marseille may be able to do something they couldn’t last season – score a league goal against PSG.
