Marseille vs PSG Predictions
- Marseille have lost four straight in all competitions, failing to score in two
- PSG have won to nil on three of their last four trips to the Velodrome
- OM were thrashed 4‑1 by Besiktas on Thursday
OM look overmatched against PSG
Marseille enter Le Classique on Sunday in full crisis mode after losing their fourth match in succession on Thursday night. Bruno Genesio’s side opened the season by hammering Strasbourg 4‑0, but everything has collapsed since.
While the defeats to Monaco (2‑0), Paris FC (3‑2), Rennes (1‑0) were bad, their Europa League capitulation to Besiktas was something else as OM could easily have conceded six or seven on the banks of the Bosphorus.
A tired and timid team now faces a PSG side that has had a full week off to prepare for this clash, which always seems to bring out the best in the champions. PSG have won six of their last nine Ligue 1 trips to the Velodrome, their only defeat in that span coming last season.
Marseille facing another home shutout
Although Luis Enrique’s side can be accused of taking their foot off the gas at times domestically, that simply does not happen against OM and the fact that this match falls just before an international break means the Spaniard is likely to play his best available side. With Geoffrey Kondogbia and Tochukwu Nnadi still absent, Marseille’s midfield could be seriously overrun.
PSG edged Brest 1‑0 to claim their first league win last weekend but their European form has been far more convincing. They enjoyed a UEFA Super Cup victory over Aston Villa and a 6‑1 demolition of Slovan Bratislava on Matchday One of the Champions League.
Ferran Torres, already on six goals, is certainly benefiting from the extra attention that fellow forwards like Ousmane Dembélé and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia warrant and the unselfish generosity of his teammates in front of goal. Ashraf Hakimi should be fit enough to return for this clash, and PSG ought to win comfortably, though a win to nil has been the trend in this fixture, with Marseille failing to score in six of the last seven meetings in Provence.
