Marseille vs Sporting Lisbon Predictions
- Marseille have lost back-to-back Champions League games without scoring.
- Sporting Lisbon have won back-to-back Champions League games without conceding.
- Sporting Lisbon have won five of their last six games and kept four clean sheets during that run.
Lions cannot be overlooked in Marseille
Sporting Lisbon can spring another Champions League surprise when they face Marseille at the Stade Velodrome on Tuesday evening. Os Leoes turned in a brilliant performance as road underdogs to beat Eintracht Frankfurt early last month and followed it up with a superb home win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The first of those was quite unexpected as they were only two games removed from a dismal 2-0 home defeat to Chaves, but Ruben Amorim’s side are in much more impressive form now. Defensively, they look very secure and, in Pote and Marcus Edwards, they have players that can come up with flashes of magic to unlock any defence.
Marseille’s form has been a mixed bag this season under new coach Igor Tudor and they have struggled particularly at UCL level, losing both Group D games without scoring a goal. The French giants have only managed five shots on target across the two games and their xG figures have been similarly unimpressive.
Sporting able to upset the odds
If Sporting can replicate their display in Frankfurt then this will be a win to nil for Amorim’s men, but that will be hard to repeat and a straight win bet is probably more sensible. The odds are certainly attractive enough to take and Sporting went off at bigger prices in both of their previous group games.
A 1-0 away win is forecast as Sporting have won five of their last six games and kept four clean sheets during that run while OM have failed to score in seven of their last nine UCL games, all of which ended in defeat.
