Lyon can outclass struggling Metz on the road

Lyon are the clear bet away at Metz on Sunday. There is a gulf between these teams in the standings, and Lyon possess a clear edge if the league table is any guide.

Lyon are fourth in Ligue 1, 14 places and 21 points above rock-bottom Metz, with ten wins, three draws and five defeats from their 18 games, while the hosts have just three wins so far.

They kept up their recent winning trend with a 2-1 victory over Brest last weekend, dominating possession with 70.9%. The result means Lyon have won four of the five matches in which they have been odds-on this season.

The hosts have been struggling defensively. Metz have failed to keep a clean sheet in 17 of their last 20 home games and no team has shipped more goals in Ligue 1 this season than the 40 goals they have conceded.

Metz have been disappointing in front of goal at home this season, scoring just seven goals in eight Ligue 1 games – an average of 0.88 goals per game.

Their supporters haven’t had too much to cheer about in recent games, with five of their last six Ligue 1 matches ending in defeat. They have now gone six games without a win.

Lyon are in form, having won four of their last five Ligue 1 games. They are going for a fourth successive win, while Metz have lost five of their last six.

A 2-1 away win for Lyon looks a decent correct-score bet. Eleven of Metz’s 18 league matches this season have produced over 2.5 goals and, while Lyon have won seven of their ten victories by one goal, Metz have lost by a single goal six times in Ligue 1.
