Millwall vs Leicester Predictions

Milwall extended their excellent unbeaten run on Tuesday as they beat Port Vale 2-0 at home, making it four wins from their last five games in all competitions and 12 matches unbeaten. Their last defeat was before Christmas, and that includes two clashes with Premier League opposition.

They did endure a few poor spells in the opening half of the campaign, but their recent run has lifted them up to 6th in the League One table. They have a one point lead over 7th placed Southend United and are just nine points adrift of the automatic promotion spots, so there is everything to play for in League One.

That won’t take any focus off the FA Cup though. They have already defied the odds twice by knocking out Bournemouth and Watford, with 3-0 and 1-0 scorelines at The Den, respectively. This has cemented the fact that Millwall is still a very tough place to visit, even if you have the supposed quality advantage. They have won seven and drawn one of their last eight games there too.

Leicester were hoping that their 3-1 extra time win over Derby in the FA Cup could propel them on to recover from a disastrous season so far. That didn’t turn out to be the case as they were deservedly beaten 2-0 away to Swansea last weekend, making it five defeats from their last seven outings. They haven’t won any of those games in normal time either, and with a trip to Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday there is a chance that one eye could be on that fixture.

Away from home they are a travesty, considering they are the Premier League champions. They have won one, drawn five, and lost nine of their last 15 trips away in all competitions, which goes some way to explaining how they are just a point clear of the relegation zone.

Premier League survival and the Champions League are likely to take precedent over the FA Cup at the moment, and as such I think we can expect Claudio Ranieri to make some changes on Saturday.

This only serves to help Millwall, who will feel confident after their previous FA Cup displays against top flight opposition. Odds of 15/8 for a Millwall win are incredibly good value, so I’m backing that along with a 2-0 correct score predictions at 12/1.
