MK Dons vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions

  • Both of last season’s meetings between Milton Keynes Dons and Sheffield Wednesday saw both teams net, containing a total of eight goals.
  • MK Dons and Sheffield Wednesday each scored 78 League One goals last season, a tally only bettered by three other outfits.
  • Sheffield Wednesday have seen both teams net in four of their last five competitive matches, including a madcap 3-3 draw with Portsmouth last time out.

Promotion contenders face early meeting

Milton Keynes Dons and Sheffield Wednesday finished third and fourth respectively before losing out in the League One play-offs last season, and although neither began the 2022-23 campaign with a win last time out, both are expected to challenge once more.

Liam Manning’s hosts netted 78 goals in the third tier last term, and the summer return of Will Grigg should see them maintain their strong attacking record. MK Dons experienced teething problems as they fell to defeat at Cambridge United last week despite managing two-thirds of the play, although their two most recent fixtures against the Owls both saw goals at each end, with the net being hit a total of eight times.

Darren Moore’s Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, were the better side during a 3-3 opening-day draw with Portsmouth, and an attack featuring the likes of Lee Gregory and Josh Windass should prosper at this level. Four of their last five competitive games, however, have seen goals at both ends, and the Owls’ last clean sheet came on April 19, seven competitive games ago.

Entertainment expected when heavy-hitters meet

With neither of these likely promotion contenders starting the season in ideal fashion, but both boasting attacks likely to do damage in the third tier, backing both teams to score looks a strong play for Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in three head-to-head meetings, doing a league double over MK Dons last season, and could be worth backing for a 2-1 away victory.
