Monaco to strengthen Champions League ambitions

Monaco’s attacking threat at home makes them the bet to beat Lyon on Saturday. Adi Hutter’s side have been in free-scoring form at Stade Louis II, netting 36 goals in 16 Ligue 1 games – an average of 2.25 goals per game.

They are third in Ligue 1, four places and four points above Lyon, with 17 wins, seven draws and eight losses from their 32 games this season. The visitors are seventh with 16 wins, six draws and ten defeats.

Lyon’s recent form in Ligue 1 has been up and down, with three wins and three defeats in their last six games. Those results included a lopsided 4-1 win over Rennes, but also a 2-1 loss to 17th-placed St-Etienne.

Monaco are in good form at home, having avoided defeat in nine of their last ten Ligue 1 games at Stade Louis II. They have won eight of those matches.

Monaco look solid in defence this season. They have kept three clean sheets in their last four Ligue 1 home games and have conceded just 16 goals at Stade Louis II in 16 games – an average of one goal per game.

Monaco may be able to edge out Lyon in a 2-1 win at home. Thirteen of the visitors’ last 16 Ligue 1 games have produced three goals or more, and three of their ten defeats this season have been by that scoreline.
