Monza vs Empoli Predictions
- Empoli have seen both teams score in three of their last five matches, conceding nine times in that run and failing to win.
- Monza, meanwhile, have seen both teams net in six of their last 10.
- The hosts have suffered back-to-back defeats after a run of eight league games without a loss, and may not be worth backing on the result markets.
Monza suffer setback
Monza were Serie A’s only unbeaten team in 2023 before facing Milan a fortnight ago, but a 1-0 defeat to the Rossoneri was followed by a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Salernitana, dealing a reality check to Raffaele Palladino’s men. Up next is a meeting with Empoli, themselves without a win since January’s upset of Inter Milan, and punters may be best advised to turn to the goals markets.
Monza had gone eight league games without losing before their back-to-back defeats, beating Juventus and in-form Bologna while drawing with Inter during that sequence. Monza have been one of the more proactive teams in Serie A this term – only Napoli and Fiorentina average a greater share of possession per game, and only three sides have completed more passes. Their open style has caused problems at times – six of their last 10 games have contained goals at both ends and only six teams – all in the bottom seven – have conceded more goals than their 34 in Serie A this term.
Empoli, meanwhile, were unsurprisingly outclassed by Napoli last time out, making it five games without a victory since their shock win over the Nerazzurri at San Siro. Four of Empoli’s last five opponents have scored multiple goals against them, though only Napoli and Roma have shut Paolo Zanetti’s team out since October. Three of their last five games have featured goals at both ends, and they will back themselves to breach Monza’s rearguard on Saturday.
Back goals in mid-table clash
With neither Monza nor Empoli in any danger of being dragged into a relegation battle, a watchable affair is expected – even if punters may be put off backing either side for victory given their recent results.
Both teams to score is our play, particularly after Monza were put to the sword by relegation-threatened Salernitana last week. A 1-1 draw, meanwhile, could represent a solid correct score pick.
