Morocco to justify their favouritism

After going unbeaten in their group (W2, D1), one-time AFCON champions Morocco qualified for the knockout stages with aplomb. The Atlas Lions head into this game as hot favourites and are boosted by the return of Sevilla ace Youssef En Nesyri.

There are a massive 101 places in the FIFA rankings separating Morocco (#28) from Malawi (#129), which in and of itself highlights the expectation of success placed on Moroccan shoulders in this clash.

Luckily for Morocco, they are used to putting sides to the sword, as evidenced by their return of at least two goals in ten of their last 13 games, which includes games against higher ranked sides than Malawi, namely Gabon and Guinea.

End of the road for Malawi

Despite the fact they failed to score in two of their three group games, Malawi managed to qualify by virtue of their win against Zimbabwe and a goalless draw with Senegal. While the latter proves their potential solidity, that was one of only two clean sheets across their last 14 games.

I expect Morocco to come out on top in this clash, though the price is more attractive on the over 1.5 team goals market. This is already a record AFCON tournament for Malawi, so I think they may crumble under the pressure of extending that against one of the tournament favourites.
