St Mirren vs St Johnstone Predictions
- Mirren are unbeaten in six home matches against the other teams in the bottom half.
- Mirren are the fourth-best SPL team in terms of shots on target conceded at home.
- Johnstone have only scored more than once in one of their six travelling matches away against bottom-half teams.
Struggling St. Mirren
St. Mirren, who are currently sitting in a lowly 10th position, put an end to their winless run last time out, beating top-six side Motherwell away from home. The fans at the Simple Digital Arena will be hoping that such an encouraging victory acts as a springboard for further positive results.
They’ve been no means excellent at home, but St. Mirren have been far better at home than they have away, while their home record against fellow bottom-half teams isn’t too bad at all. In fact, it’s very good. Wednesday’s hosts are unbeaten in six home matches against those currently in the bottom half, three of which they’ve won. Impressively, they’ve kept four clean sheets in those six matches and have conceded a total of just two goals.
Visitors in good shape
St. Johnstone join St. Mirren in the bottom half, but they’ve been in good form of late. The visitors grabbed a draw off Rangers last time out, while they’re now unbeaten in five.
In addition to some pleasing recent form, St, Johnstone have generally fared well against those currently in the bottom half, even on the road. They’ve won two, drawn three and lost just one, keeping three clean sheets. However, their one loss came at this venue, where they lost by two goals to nil earlier in the season. On that occasion, they were outplayed in all areas, including both shots and shots on target, which doesn’t bode well for the visitors ahead of Wednesday’s clash.
Hosts look a good bet
St. Mirren are not in a favourable position, but their unbeaten record against those around them in the bottom half is hard to ignore. Moreover, although St. Johnstone have a pleasing away record against bottom-half teams, they were soundly beaten at this venue earlier in the campaign. At the prices, a home win appeals. The hosts have been good at restricting teams, conceding just two goals in six matches against bottom-six opposition.
Those looking for a ‘Correct Score’ punt should try a 1-0 St. Mirren win. Four clean sheets in six matches against bottom-half sides points towards the hosts keeping a St. Johnstone side that they’ve already shutout at bay, though the hosts aren’t the biggest scorers, notching just once in three of their last four at home.
