Could Napoli slip up in the title race?

Sunday’s Serie A clash between Napoli and Genoa at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium is unlikely to produce many goals. There have been fewer than three goals in 23 of Genoa’s 35 league games this season, and five of Napoli’s last seven matches have produced under 2.5 goals.

Napoli are the leaders of Serie A, having won 23 of their 35 games this season and this could turn nervy. In contrast, Genoa are 13th in the table with nine wins, 12 draws and 14 losses.

Napoli have won six of their last eight Serie A matches, including a 2-1 win over Milan, and are on a run of four consecutive home victories. For Genoa, it is a difficult time, as they have lost four of their last six league games and are struggling to find a win, having gone four matches without recording a victory.

Their 1-0 win away to Lecce last weekend, secured by a first-half goal, kept up their run of matches with under 2.5 goals. Napoli have now won 19 of the 23 games in which they’ve scored first this season and restricted Lecce to one shot on target.

Under 2.5 goals has been a feature of the visitors’ last few matches. There have been under 2.5 goals in seven of Genoa’s last nine Serie A away games, and in 12 of their 17 games on the road this season.

Six of the last eight Serie A meetings between these sides have seen both teams score and the 1-1 draw might be an option for correct-score bettors. Napoli are in grind mode but look poor value for a game that could be much closer than the odds suggest.
