Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne City Predictions
The bookies make the visitors clear favourites at 5/6 to win this game. However, that looks really short for numerous reasons and there looks to be value in backing Newcastle Jets to get a result.
For starters Melbourne City have been very poor on the road in recent weeks. They haven’t won any of their last 5 A-League away matches. 3 of those games have been against sides in the bottom four and they were beaten 2-1 at 2nd bottom Adelaide United last time out on their travels, a side that had only won 1 match all season prior to that game. None of that suggests they should be ‘odds on’ to win this game and they have only won 29% of their A-League away games this season.
Newcastle Jets have shown real signs of improvement over the past month or so. They’ve been a bit inconsistent but in the final third, they’ve packed a far greater punch. They’ve scored 2 or more goals in 6 of their last 7 A-League games and average 1.5 per home game this term. Their main danger-man of late has been striker Andrew Nabbout. The 24 year old has scored in 4 of his last 6 appearances for Newcastle and backing Nabbout to score anytime at 15/8 looks to offer value here, given how many chances his side have been creating of late.
The only side to win at the C.ex Coffs International Stadium this season has been clear leaders Sydney so the Jets have clearly been at least a match for everyone else in the division on their own soil and there is nothing exceptional about Melbourne City right now. Newcastle have avoided defeat in 75% of their home games in the A-League this season, while City have failed to win 71% of their away games.
Given those stats backing Double Chance – Newcastle Jets or Draw at Evens looks to offer value.
