Newcastle Jets vs Western Sydney Wanderers Predictions

Newcastle Jets haven’t set the league on fire so far this season, picking up just one win and struggling in the final third, scoring only five goals in five games. They are on a small run of form with a draw and a win in their last two games and they’ll be keen to extend that run with another positive result here. The lack of striking options has been a problem for the team so far but the side have started to look a bit more dangerous. Despite that, they have yet to score more than one goal in a game this season.

Western Sydney Wanderers started the season well, keeping pace with the teams at the top of the league and having people consider them as title contenders. A draw and two losses in their last three games have left them six points behind Melbourne City at the top of the league and things aren’t looking quite as rosy for the team. They’ve still been scoring goals, however, with three in their last two and will be confident they can find the net this weekend and potentially pick up a result.

While the two sides have had differing fortunes so far this season, they aren’t too far apart in terms of attacking stats, with Newcastle averaging a goal a game and Western Sydney averaging 1.33 goals. Their defensive stats don’t line up quite as well, with Newcastle conceding an average of 1.6 goals per game. Western Sydney have had a much better defensive output, conceding just 1.11 goals per game. There isn’t much between the two sides, though, and this is a tough game to see either side winning all three points in.

For that reason, we’re using the Asian Handicap line to try and find the value backing Western Sydney Wanderers +0.5 goals. Their quality in attack should keep them from losing this game and we’re confident the 0.5 line should give the visitors a big chance of winning on the handicap. Newcastle have been struggling and while we can’t see them picking up the win here, the handicap gives us sufficient protection.

We’re also predicting the game to end in a stalemate with a 1-1 result looking the most likely. This gives both teams the chance to show what they can do, with so little between the two teams at the moment making it hard to pick a winner. The 1-1 draw looks to offer value and should represent an even and fair result between the teams.
