Newcastle vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
Newcastle’s relegation battle finally came to an end in midweek when their north east rivals Sunderland condemned them to at least one season in the Championship with their 3-0 win over Everton.
The form of these two arch rivals during the relegation battle shows exactly why one has stayed up and the other gone down. Where Sunderland were determined and full of heart and passion, Newcastle have been lacklustre and, despite positive changes from Rafa Benitez, still haven’t been able to get the results when they mattered.
This was no more evident than when they visited bottom of the table Aston Villa last weekend. They failed to score against the dismal club and came away with just a point. This did make it five games unbeaten for them, but just two of those have been victories and these remain their only two wins in their last 11 games.
Tottenham Hotspur’s form has taken a nosedive during the Premier League title run in. They first drew at home to West Brom as they showed signed of bottling it, and then they officially lost the title when they relinquished a two goal lead at Stamford Bridge to drop two points there too. The downtrodden Spurs lost at home to Southampton last weekend as well, not that it mattered to them any more.
Both of these teams look utterly beaten and I can’t see any end of season thrills in this one. Spurs showed their lack of enthusiasm last weekend at home to Southampton, and Newcastle’s failure to score against Villa doesn’t bode well for their final game in the Premier League.
Seven of Newcastle’s last 11 home matches have ended with fewer than three goals scored too, so it’s looking like it could be a very dull affair. Odds of 13/10 for Under 2.5 Goals look too good to turn down as well, so I’m going for that along with a 1-0 win for Spurs at 17/2.
