Nigeria vs Tunisia Predictions

  • Nigeria have won seven of their last nine competitive contests, including all three group games.
  • Both teams have not scored in five of the last seven Nigeria matches.
  • Tunisia have lost two of their three games in Cameroon, with both teams to score not landing in any.
  • Both teams have not scored in seven of the last eight Tunisia matches at AFCON Finals.

Super Eagles in better shape than Tunisia

Nigeria are not wholly convincing at the back, but they may just have enough to keep Tunisia at bay in Sunday’s second last-16 match in Cameroon. The Super Eagles have soared at this edition of AFCON – much to their supporters surprise – and the growing belief among Augustine Eguavoen’s men could carry them to victory in Garoua.

They have won three games on the bounce in a none-too-easy group that featured pre-tournament favourites Egypt. The performance levels have been pretty good too with only a few minor aspects, such as a lack of impact made by any of Eguavoen’s substitutes, feeling like nitpicking compared to the coach’s successes.

Nigeria, who are yet to trail in the tournament, appear to be a united group, which is more than can be said about Tunisia. The Eagles of Carthage were left to argue among themselves when the referee blew for time on Thursday night as tournament debutants Gambia stole a 1-0 win in stoppage time.

Tunisia’s traits aren’t tempting us

The result didn’t alter the outcome of the group, but it could have driven a wedge between a few of the Tunisia players, whose body language looked awful and whose temperament when under pressure looked far from ideal. In terms of xG, they should have won the game, but an inability to take chances and the drop in collective concentration near the end are traits that no punter wants to back.

And, so we would be with Nigeria in the match result betting here, but this is a tournament where fear can sometimes be the overriding factor in close matches and six of the last seven head-to-head meetings have finished level. Our preferred selection here is for both teams not to score – that would follow a familiar pattern for both teams recently.

Both teams have not scored in five of the last seven Nigeria matches and in seven of the last eight Tunisia games at AFCON Finals. A 1-0 winning scoreline for the Super Eagles is taken in correct score betting, which also matches the result when last the sides met at AFCON.
