Palmeiras vs Gremio Predictions

Sunday’s Brazilian Serie A action sees Palmeiras going up against Gremio at the Allianz Parque. The hosts arrive as favourites to win the game and will be looking to do exactly that.

After dropping points in draws to Corinthians and Bahia over their last couple of games, Palmeiras are on the brink of losing their Serie A crown. Indeed, such inconsistency and unnecessarily dropped points have been what has cost them this season and they come into Sunday’s game knowing anything but a win would see leaders Flamengo mathematically over the line.

As such, the hosts will at least be looking to keep their slimmest of hopes alive by securing victory and confidence can be high in doing that, given their excellent home record. Indeed, most of Palmeiras’ struggles have tended to come on the road and they come into this match unbeaten in a staggering 31 home league matches, of which they’ve won 26.

Meanwhile, Gremio have also fallen a little short of expectations in the sense that they’ve never been involved in title race but Tricilor haven’t had a terrible campaign, having reached the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores and remaining on course to qualify for next year’s edition of it.

Gremio currently find themselves inside the top 4 places with a 3 point margin of error and that’s exactly where they’ll be looking to stay. Nonetheless, Renato Gaucho’s troops lost last time out in a 1-0 home defeat to Flamengo and having also tasted defeat in 3 of their last 6 away games, they’re not a particularly strong force on the road, which leaves their prospects looking questionable as regards securing a result on Sunday.

Ultimately, on home soil this is a match you have to fancy Palmeiras to be winning and they should be able to get the job done. Man for man, they are a bit stronger than Gremio on paper and there’s a reason why 12 points separate the two in the table, with the hosts clearly the more powerful outfit.

All things considered, backing a home win looks the way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is something we’re more than happy to do at current prices. Palmeiras’ home record is simply incredible and having won 3 of their last 5 home matches via a 1-0 margin, that’s a scoreline we fancy them to grind out once again this weekend.
