Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Peterborough vs Port Vale Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in four of Port Vale’s last six league matches.
  • Meanwhile, only four sides have bettered Peterborough United’s return of 14 goals in League One this season.
  • However, the Posh have lost four consecutive league games, which could turn punters away from the result markets.

Posh look to end dire run

Peterborough United made a strong start to their League One campaign under Grant McCann, but a run of four successive league defeats has brought the Posh under fire ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Port Vale. McCann’s men did post a comprehensive EFL Trophy win over Tottenham Under-21s in midweek, but Vale’s visit may represent a tougher assignment.

Indeed, Port Vale are on a five-match unbeaten run after beating Shrewsbury Town last time out, and have recovered from an underwhelming start to be more competitive of late; Darrell Clarke’s men have seen both teams score in four of their last six league games, only losing to MK Dons and Portsmouth in that time. On the road, meanwhile, Port Vale have claimed results at Burton Albion and Barnsley in their last two outings, and they should test the Posh on Saturday.

In all competitions, five of Peterborough’s seven reverses this season have come away from home, so they should be encouraged by a return to London Road. Only Fleetwood Town, meanwhile, have shut the Posh out on home soil all season. Despite their poor recent form, only the current top four have outscored Peterborough in League One this campaign, and they should be, at the very least, good for a goal.

Both teams to net appears prudent play

Given Peterborough’s recent struggles and Port Vale’s encouraging run of form, ignoring the result markets and backing both teams to net – which was a winning bet in five of the teams’ last six head-to-head fixtures – appears prudent.

However, only two League One sides have managed more shots on target than the hosts this term, and their luck will surely turn soon – a 2-1 home win appears a decent correct score prediction.
