Bayern Munich and Both Teams To Score

      Reason for tip

Bayern Munich bounced back from last weekend’s goalless draw with Schalke by thrashing Bodo/Glimt 5-0 in the Champions League and they should get past Elversberg. The hosts are high flying and have nothing to lose, though, and they have already flexed their attacking muscles on plenty of occasions this season.

      Bayern Munich 4-1

      Reason for tip

Bayern Munich have scored 16 goals in five games this season, including triumphing 4-1 at Osnabruck in the DFB-Pokal. That result also underlined some defensive frailties and Elversberg can score in this game, but they will struggle to curtail the visitors’ imperious attack.

      Elversberg vs Bayern Munich Predictions

      • Elversberg have won their opening two Bundesliga matches
      • Bayern Munich are two points worse off than Sunday’s hosts
      • The Bavarians thrashed Bodo/Glimt 5-0 in the Champions League on Thursday

Elversberg fairy tale to face toughest test

The Bundesliga’s smallest ever team, Elversberg, will put their 100 per cent record on the line when they welcome 35-time German champions Bayern Munich to the Ursapharm-Arena on Sunday.

Elversberg have not only achieved a fairy-tale promotion to the Bundesliga, they are thriving in it, starting out with back-to-back wins over Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach, scoring seven goals in the process.

That leaves them two points above Bayern in the standings, with Vincent Kompany’s side having been held to a surprise goalless draw by another of the newly-promoted sides, Schalke, last weekend having opened with a commanding 5-1 win over Stuttgart.

      Bayern’s quality should shine through

It was a surprise to see Bayern fail to break down Schalke, especially as they have scored 16 goals across their four other matches this season, including thrashing Bodo/Glimt 5-0 in the Champions League on Thursday night.

Defensively there are still one or two concerns, with second-tier Osnabruck having scored against them in the DFB-Pokal – a match that finished 4-1 – and it could be a similar outcome on Sunday.

This is certainly a match Bayern should win with something to spare, bringing the Elversberg party to at least a temporary halt, but Vincent Wagner’s hosts have proven their attacking quality already this season and can get on the scoresheet.
