Pompey can send Tigers down

Hull are unreliable favourites away at Portsmouth on Saturday. They have failed to win three of their last four games as favourites, and backing John Mousinho’s side to get the victory at Fratton Park looks the best bet.

Bookmakers have put a lot of emphasis on what needs to happen in this match with Hull relegated unless they avoid defeat, but even a draw might not be enough. However, the Tigers are down at the bottom for a good reason and Pompey are value.

Portsmouth are six places and five points above Hull in the table, but both teams have lost more games than they’ve won this season. Hull, in 22nd, have won 12 and lost 21, while Portsmouth have won 14 and lost 20.

Hull have lost their last two away games in the Championship and there are concerns about their form on the road after losing their last two away games in the Championship without scoring.

Portsmouth may be able to edge out Hull in a close game, with a 2-1 home win the correct-score pick. No Championship team’s games have gone over 2.5 goals more often than Portsmouth’s this season, and 15 of Hull’s 21 defeats have come by the odd goal.
