Portsmouth vs Hull City Predictions

Hull have scored two or more goals in 19 of their 33 Championship games this season and both teams can find the net at Fratton Park. Both teams have scored in four of Hull’s last six matches and in Portsmouth’s last three.

They are fifth in the Championship, 14 places and 18 points above Portsmouth, with ten wins, six draws and ten defeats from their 33 games this season.

Portsmouth’s recent form has been inconsistent, with three wins and three defeats in their last six games, but Hull are going well away from home, having won six of their last seven road trips.

Portsmouth lost 2-1 to Wrexham on Tuesday in their last Championship outing, maintaining their run of matches with both teams scoring. Zak Swanson netted for Portsmouth, who were priced as 5/2 outsiders to win the game and scored with their only shot on target.

Both teams have scored in Portsmouth’s last three Championship matches and four of Hull’s last six, with BTTS coming in by half time when the sides last clashed in November.

Hull will fancy themselves to find the net. The away side have been a potent attacking force this season – only two teams in the Championship have more goals than the 55 Hull have scored – and they have averaged 1.83 goals a game in their six away games against bottom-half teams.

Both teams have been struggling defensively of late, with Hull conceding 48 goals so far this season in the Championship – an average of 1.45 goals per game from 33 games – and Portsmouth failing to keep their opponents at bay in five straight league games.

With six of Hull’s last eight Championship games and each of Portsmouth’s last three seeing over 2.5 goals, a 2-1 away win for Hull looks a decent correct-score bet. Eleven of Hull’s 17 wins this season were by a single goal and ten of Portsmouth’s 14 reverses have been by the same margin.
