Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

No visiting side has stopped Preston from getting on the scoresheet in an FA Cup home game since 2013/14, whilst they’ve also lost with both teams scoring in their last three competition games against top-flight opposition.

Tottenham Hotspur 2-1

Reason for tip

Spurs have conceded eight goals across their last five away games and they may well be made to work for a result this time around too.

Preston vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

  • Tottenham’s last two wins came via single goal margins.
  • Preston haven’t failed to score in an FA Cup home game since the 2013/14 campaign.
  • There has been over 2.5 goals in Preston’s last three matches.

An intriguing FA Cup encounter at Deepdale

Preston did well to come from behind and win 3-1 against Huddersfield in the FA Cup third round, yet they face a much tougher test against the Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, a side desperate to win their first trophy since the 2008 League Cup.

There have been 11 prior FA Cup matches between these sides with Preston able to level out the record if they can pull off a shock victory (W4, D2, L5). Considering that fellow Championship side Middlesbrough knocked Spurs out of this competition last term, the Lilywhites should enter this with no fear.

The hosts have lost each of their last five FA Cup games against Premier League opponents, although they did at least get on the scoresheet in the last three such matches. However, a run of five straight home games without a single shutout suggests that one goal won’t be enough to succeed.

Going for goals

Antonio Conte’s Spurs enter this clash on a high after defeating Fulham in a Premier League London derby game last time out, yet with any dreams of achieving the title surely dead in the water, this competition is a focus for the visitors.

Spurs are expected to field a full strength side as they look to avoid a second upset against second-tier opponents in consecutive years but having conceded eight goals across their last five away league games, they’ll need Harry Kane at his scoring best if they’re to progress at the first time of asking.

There is simply little to no value in backing a Spurs win at such a short price which is a little skinny at around 4/11, so we’re going to take a chance on the BTTS – yes market at a much more palatable price. As for the correct score, a small stakes play on a hard-fought 2-1 away win serves to complete our selections for this FA Cup clash.
