Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Preston could take the opportunity to rotate their team as the league and a promotion push are a clear priority. Both teams have scored in 10 of North End’s last 13 games overall and Wigan have been in good scoring form on the road, only failing to grab a goal in one of their last 12 away assignments. The Latics have only managed one away clean sheet all season so goals at both ends looks likely at Deepdale.

Preston 2-1

Reason for tip

Goals at both ends are expected but Preston’s superior quality should prove the difference. North End have only lost one of their last seven home games and have conceded exactly once in three of their last four at Deepdale, take a chance on a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Preston vs Wigan Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in 10 of Preston’s last 13 games across all comps.
  • Both teams have scored in 10 of Wigan’s 14 away games this season, they’ve conceded in 13 of those games.
  • North End have just one defeat in their last 10 games.

North End face Latics in third round

Preston entertain north west rivals Wigan Athletic in one of four FA Cup third round ties on Friday evening in what could be an entertaining clash.

North End are pushing for promotion in the Championship and will fancy their chances of dumping out the Latics, who are just three points clear of danger in the third tier.

A home win is one option, but the better angle looks to be backing both teams to score at a slightly bigger price.

Preston have been keeping clean sheets recently, with three in their last four games, but boss Paul Heckingbottom may use this cup assignment as an opportunity to rest a few starters as promotion is a very realistic goal this term. The Deepdale outfit sit fourth in the Championship and are only three points off the automatic promotion spots, so the league will be their priority.

Wigan should name a strong side despite their relegation concerns in League One, and they are generally good for a goal on he road, having scored in 11 of their last 12 trips across all competitions.

Both teams have scored in 10 of Preston’s last 13 games, and Wigan will continue to push forward even if they do fall a few goals behind in what is a one-off fixture, so there is a good chance we’ll see goals at both ends in Lancashire.

Preston’s superior quality should prove the difference and with home advantage they should be able to win inside 90 minutes even if they do concede. A 2-1 home win is the pick as North End have just one defeat in their last seven at home (W3, D3) and they have conceded exactly one goal in three of their last four outings at this venue.
