PSV vs Atletico Madrid Predictions
PSV strolled to Eredivisie success last season, and while they are sitting at the top of the domestic table at the moment the race in Holland is much closer than it was last term. They only have a one point advantage over Ajax. The Dutch champions are in excellent form though, having won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions. They have been rather surprising in the Champions League as well, playing efficiently and attractively to beat Manchester United in the Netherlands and then earning a draw at Old Trafford to help them towards a 2nd place finish in the group, even without the talents of last season’s top scorer Memphis Depay.
Atletico Madrid have slumped a bit over the past month or so, picking up just two wins in their last seven games and falling eight points behind Barcelona in the race for the La Liga title. However, they know that they have a significant advantage over their opponents in terms of the quality of their players, so that should make for an interesting match up.
Reasons for Betting Tips
There is no doubt that Atletico Madrid have the quality advantage over the Eredivisie champions at the moment. The likes of Antoine Griezmann and Koke provide the visitors with a cutting edge that PSV lost when Memphis and Wijnaldum departed in the summer. Luuk de Jong has been their best player this season, but there are doubts about whether he can do it outside the relatively uncompetitive Eredivisie.
Add Diego Simeone’s excellent European record to the equation and I think Atletico Madrid have a big edge on the hosts on Wednesday, and given the fact that they have performed as well on the road as they have at the Vicente Calderon this season I’m backing the Spaniards to get the win on Wednesday. Them keeping a clean sheet looks likely too, so a 2-0 correct score prediction is looking good to me.
