Rangers vs St Mirren Predictions
- Both teams have scored in Rangers’ first four matches of the season
- St Mirren have scored in four of their last five visits to Ibrox
- Rangers have won 15 of their last 16 home games against St Mirren
McInnes must inject some positivity soon
Derek McInnes’ wait for a first win as Rangers boss cannot go on much longer and, after four consecutive let-downs, he should be able to celebrate at Ibrox this weekend. The Light Blues crashed out of the Europa League to Jagiellonia on Thursday after a 1-1 draw in the second leg, a result that was greeted with loud boos ringing out around the stadium.
The fans’ anger is by no means all directed at the ex-Hearts boss but he must find a way of turning a potentially toxic situation into a positive soon. A win over last season’s surprise League Cup winners would be a step in the right direction and no small feat given how well Craig McLeish’s men have been playing.
The Buddies are keeping pace with Celtic at the top after back-to-back wins over Falkirk and St. Johnstone, each being achieved with clean sheets. They needed a penalty to claim all three points last weekend, but their recent Ibrox record suggests they can score in this cup contest too.
BTTS odds appeal more than short-priced hosts
Rangers have the better players and a stronger squad, but their cohesion and confidence is lacking. Therefore, it is better to take the almost even money about both teams to score than the shorter odds about the hosts to win in 90 minutes, which they may find a way to do.
BTTS has landed in all four of Rangers’ games this term as a familiar pattern of poor defending and occasional moments of magic in attack has played out. Take McInnes’ men to earn a hard-fought 2-1 win on Sunday.
