Rayo Vallecano vs Espanyol Predictions
- Both teams have scored in 10 of Espanyol’s last 11 games
- Rayo have scored in 10 of their last 11 at home across all comps
- Rayo have just two defeats in 15 home La Liga games
Survival the target for Rayo and Espanyol
Rayo Vallecano entertain Espanyol in La Liga on Thursday in a clash between two sides who could still be drawn into the relegation scrap.
Espanyol were pushing for Champions League football in the first half of the season but they haven’t managed a league win since December. The Barcelona club are now 10th in the standings, six points adrift of the European spots and six clear of danger with seven games to play.
Rayo are three points worse off and they remain involved in the Conference League, which has perhaps hindered their league form this season.
Both teams are struggling for form so the best betting angle is perhaps backing both teams to score, which looks good value considering both sides’ defensive records.
Goals at both ends has been a regular feature of Espanyol’s games of late, landing in 10 of their last 11 games, and they have shipped 27 goals across their 16 away games.
Rayo’s games have been less entertaining but they are generally good for a goal or two at home having scored in 10 of their last 11 at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas across all competitions. They’ve also conceded in six of those games, and Espanyol have a decent strike rate away with 19 goals scored on their travels.
The hosts are the more likely side to grind out a win but there is a chance the spoils could be shared and a 2-2 draw has a chance. Over half of Rayo’s home games have finished honours even and Espanyol have four draws in their last eight games.
The visitors have a strong record against Rayo with four wins in the last four meetings, so they can take a point here in Madrid even if they are in poor form.
Visiting forward Kike Garcia is a candidate for an anytime effort as he has hit a bit of form. The veteran striker has six goals for the season and three of those have come in his last eight games, and he’s been getting plenty of chances of late with 14 shots across his last five starts.
