Real Sociedad have started the La Liga season with two defeats but will be hoping for better in their first home game of the campaign against Espanyol.

A 1-0 loss at Real Betis was followed by Wednesday’s 4-1 hiding at Real Madrid, who were inspired by a Kylian Mbappe hat-trick.

Espanyol started the campaign with a 3-0 win when hosting Levante and were only undone in the final moments of a 2-1 defeat by Real Madrid last time out.

These two teams were separated by only goal difference in La Liga last season – each showing inconsistency with 46 points collected from their 38 games – but Espanyol have failed to win any of their last seven league meetings with Real Sociedad.

La Real have won six of their last seven meetings at home to Espanyol, who lost nine of their 19 away games last season.

So Real Sociedad may be worth chancing to get their season up and running and they have lost only two of their last 13 outings at home, which includes a 2-1 victory over Barcelona and a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid.

Both teams have scored in five of the last six rivalries, though, so Espanyol should be up to getting on the scoresheet in what could be a 2-1 victory for the hosts.
