Red Bull Salzburg vs Marseille Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Two Red Bull owned teams entered European competition this season, and it was widely expected that RB Leipzig would be the more successful of the two entrants. This hasn’t proved to be the case though, with the Bundesliga team getting knocked out in the quarter finals against none other than Marseille. Should the French side avoid defeat on Thursday they will certainly be one of Red Bull’s least favourite football teams.

The first leg panned out in Marseille’s favour as they picked up a fairly comfortable 2-0 win at the Orange Velodrome, with goals courtesy of the rampant Florian Thauvin and ex-Spurs winger Clinton N’Jie. However, they will be very wary of the Austrians propensity for a comeback.

Red Bull Salzburg trailed Lazio as they headed into the home leg of their quarter final tie. They then went 1-0 down in the second half at home, but still managed to mount a sensational comeback. Eventually they won that game 4-1, making it 6-5 on aggregate. Since then they have won three, drawn one, and lost one of their competitive games, but it’s their home form that really catches the eye.

At home Salzburg are unbeaten since November 2016 in competitive football, and this season have won 19 of their 26 competitive matches. This includes nine wins from ten since they returned from their winter break, and five wins from their seven home Europa League matches.

Marseille aren’t in bad form either though, with a 1-1 draw at Angers on Sunday making in six games unbeaten in all competitions. Four of these have ended in victory, as have four of their last six trips away. However, their only away defeat during this period came against RB Leipzig in the quarter finals, and in the Europa League they have actually only won one of their eight trips this season. Four of these have ended in defeat, including their group stage trip to Salzburg back in September.

Given Salzburg’s excellent record at home this season we think they have a great chance of getting the win here, so we’re backing a home win. Six of Marseille’s last eight competitive away games have seen at least three goals as well, so we’re also going for a Salzburg Win and Over 2.5 Goals. It will be difficult without an away goal on their side though, so we’re going for a 3-1 correct score predictions, which would see the Austrians fall at the final hurdle.

Munas Dabbur is the man to watch for the hosts. He has scored seven goals in the Europa League this season and five of them have come on home soil, so he looks a great choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions.
