      Romania -2

      Reason for tip

Romania won home and away to Cyprus in the Nations League over the autumn, with both victories coming by a three-goal margin, and despite their struggles in World Cup qualifying, they should be able to flex their muscles against the same opponents.

      Romania 3-0

      Reason for tip

Having beaten Cyprus 3-0 and 4-1 in the Nations League over the autumn, Romania should be able to record a similar victory against the same opponents on Tuesday, and given they have also beaten Kosovo 3-0 on home soil this season, that scoreline offers the most appeal.

      Romania vs Cyprus Predictions

      • Romania won home and away to Cyprus over the autumn in the Nations League
      • Tricolorii have won each of their last five meetings with Tuesday’s visitors
      • Cyprus have only beaten Romania once in 15 previous meetings

      Tricolorii entering last-chance saloon

Romania’s hopes of qualifying for next year’s World Cup by topping Group H are already hanging by a thread following two defeats in their opening three qualifiers, but they should prove too strong for visiting Cyprus on Tuesday.

Mircea Lucescu’s side may have been edged out by both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Austria in qualifying, but they did enjoy a perfect Nations League campaign over the autumn, winning all six of their games to finish top of League C Group 2 to earn promotion to the second tier of that competition.

That impressive effort included home and away victories over Cyprus, as they followed up September’s 3-0 road success with a 4-1 victory in the return match in Bucharest.

History to repeat itself for Cyprus

Cyprus sit level on points with Romania in qualifying after following up an opening win over group whipping boys San Marino by only just being edged out on the road against Bosnia.

Friday’s friendly draw with Bulgaria should also give Akis Mantzios’ side confidence, but Romania are a wounded animal and may want to take out some of their frustration on Tuesday’s visitors.

Tricolorii have won each of the last five meetings between the two sides, the last two of which have been by three-goal margins, and a similar story could play out at the National Arena in Bucharest, with a 3-0 home win offering plenty of value.
