Russia vs Czech Republic Predictions
After a fantastic summer, can Russia capitalise by continuing their fantastic form in this clash with the Czech Republic? After success at the World Cup, Russian football has soared, and they’re now aiming to drag that momentum in to the Autumn clashes, following a strong start to their Nations League campaign. Next up is a friendly clash with the Czech Republic on Monday, as these two sides look to chart a path to Euro 2020.
Russia will also be looking at gaining promotion in the Nations League, after mixing it with some top sides in the summer. The success of their World Cup has put football back to the forefront for Russia, like it was 10 years ago when they impressed at the Euros. They’ve managed to build on their home success with an away win over Turkey, navigating a tough trip to make a perfect start to the new competition. Will they now claim a win over the Czech Republic in Rostov, ending a poor run of friendly form?
The Czechs were slow starters in the Nations League, as they lost 2-1 at home to Ukraine. With the visitors boasting a young squad who are struggling to make the grade required to qualify for major competitions, they seem vulnerable here. Petr Cech is their big name departure, and now the Czechs have to find a way to bring through a new generation of stars, as they try to make a push for Euro 2020. They’re likely to experiment in this visit to Rostov, which will be music to the ears of the hosts.
Russia haven’t been the best in non-competitive games, notoriously struggling ahead of the World Cup. However, their wait for a friendly victory lured many in to a false sense of security this summer, as Russia confounded expectations and recorded a run to the quarter-finals. Their Nations League win in Turkey only goes to show that their World Cup bounce has been huge, and they now head in to this friendly as the deserved favourites.
Given how strong Russia have looked in recent weeks and months, we are going with a home win in this friendly. They should have far too much for an inexperienced away side, and the hosts look like great value as they look to continue the World Cup feel good factor. A Russian win is our tip here, alongside a 2-1 victory for the hosts.
