Sampdoria vs Verona Predictions
- Sampdoria have only scored 13 goals in 26 games in Serie A this season.
- Verona, meanwhile, have seen under 2.5 goals scored in 10 of their 11 matches under Marco Zaffaroni.
- The hosts have failed to score in eight of their last 11 games.
Crunch time for Verona
Two of the teams occupying places in Serie A’s bottom three do battle on Sunday, with bottom club Sampdoria hosting a Verona side in desperate need of points after 17th-placed Spezia began to pull away from those inside the relegation zone. One thing that unites all the sides threatened with relegation to Serie B is a lack of goals, and with two of the division’s worst culprits squaring off, punters should not expect a thriller.
Indeed, Sampdoria have scored a remarkably low 13 goals in 26 league outings all season, though they somehow found two in less than two minutes at Juventus last week – in a thrilling game they ultimately lost 4-2. Dejan Stankovic’s men have failed to score in eight of their last 11 matches, scoring a pitiful three goals in 13 home games all season in Serie A – failing to win a match in front of their own supporters.
Sampdoria are the only Serie A side with a worse attacking record than Verona this term – the Gialloblu have hit the net just 21 times. That has prevented them from turning draws into wins after Marco Zaffaroni instilled a solid streak after his December appointment. Indeed, 10 of their last 11 games have contained under 2.5 goals, with Verona only netting four times in their last seven. Back-to-back draws with Spezia and Monza demonstrated their solid streak, but they need to start taking games to their opponents.
Thriller unlikely as strugglers face off
Given the dire attacking returns of both sides, backing under 2.5 goals to be scored in what will almost certainly be a tight, cagey affair appears a prudent play.
Meanwhile, with Sampdoria in crisis on and off the pitch and Verona at least showing signs of life since the World Cup, a valuable 1-0 win for the visitors could represent a solid correct score prediction.
