Reason for tip

These two served up an entertaining five-goal clash at the last World Cup, but this looks set to be a tight game between two closely matched teams who it may prove impossible to separate

Serbia vs Switzerland Predictions

  • There have been only four goals in Serbia’s last five matches
  • Serbia have won just one of their last seven games
  • There have been fewer than three goals in 11 of Switzerland’s last 14 outings

Pair look difficult to separate

Switzerland saw off Serbia 3-2 in an entertaining clash at the last World Cup, but it seems unlikely that fans will be treated to a similar spectacle when they lock horns again in Leskovac on Saturday.

Both outfits need to give themselves a lift. Serbia scored just one goal in three group matches at Euro 2024 which meant they finished bottom of their section, but they have shown they are tough to beat, as Spain found out in a goalless draw last month.

Switzerland were unfortunate to go out to England on penalties in the quarter-finals, but they need to pick themselves up after losing their two opening Nations League matches, 2-0 to Denmark and 4-1 to Spain.

So the visitors will be keen to keep things tight and it would not be a surprise if the team who have drawn nine of their last 14 matches are involved in another stalemate.

Expect two defensive displays

Everything about this game shouts that it is going to be low-scoring, with Serbia’s last five matches including a total of just four goals while Switzerland’s confidence is bound to be low after the two humblings they suffered last month.

There could be a general lack of forward endeavour, so correct-score enthusiasts are pointed to a 1-1 draw.
