Servette vs Genk Predictions
- Genk have lost 22 of their 55 European away games since 1999
- The visitors lost two of their final three away trips last term to miss out on the title
- Servette have won their last two home European games
Servette return to Europe’s top tier
Servette pipped Lugano to second in the Swiss Super League last term to earn a return to the Champions League for the first time since the 1999/2000 campaign. The Swiss side are hoping to extend their stay in the tournament past their first tie in 24 years, but they clash with Belgian side Genk in their opener.
Genk head into this one as the favourites given they have the better European pedigree and they should prove the stronger over the two legs. However, The Belgian side are just returning to domestic action and their European record in recent years suggests they could be caught out in this first leg.
Genk could struggle on the road
Genk have lost 22 of their 55 away games in Europe since Servette last played in this competition and the visitors were dumped out of this competition in their first game when they last featured back in 2021.
Genk went into the Championship round of last season’s Belgian top-flight campaign on top of the table, but they lost two of their final three away games to miss out on the title. Those away issues could plague them in this one, while Servette should be confident of getting a home win.
The hosts beat Molde in their last European home game in 2021, but they were eliminated on the road. In 2020 they dumped out Ruzomberok from the Europa League with a home win before heading out away to Reims. This tie could follow a similar setup, but that does make the hosts look good value for a result at home.
