Shakhtar Donetsk vs Celtic Predictions
- Shakhtar won 4-1 at RB Leipzig in their Champions League opener.
- The Ukrainian outfit are unbeaten this season (W4, D1).
- Celtic have lost three of their last four European away games.
- Both teams have scored in Shakhtar’s last two games.
Celtic face Shakhtar test
Shakhtar Donetsk pulled off one of the shock results of the first round of Champions League fixtures as they stunned RB Leipzig in Germany and they’ll be looking to back that up with another big performance against Celtic.
This game will be played on neutral territory due to the ongoing war in Ukraine as Poland’s Stadion Wojska Polskiego, home of Legia Warsaw, hosts the fixture.
Celtic went down 3-0 at home to Real Madrid in their opener and will be desperate to get off the mark in a Group F where second place looks to be up for grabs.
Both teams in fine form
Celtic kicked off the season with seven straight wins, including a 4-0 mauling of rivals Rangers, before coming unstuck against Real and Shakhtar are in good form too, having made an unbeaten start to the season after five games in all competitions (W4, D1).
Shakhtar don’t have any real home advantage as this game is being played in Poland but they are a team who are used to moving around, having played ‘home’ games in Kyiv and Kharkiv in recent seasons. The fact this fixture is taking place in Warsaw may not be a huge issue for Shakhtar, while Celtic tend to be poor travellers in Europe.
The Parkhead club lost in Norway to Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League last season after dropping out of the Europa League, losing two of their three trips in the group stages.
Shakhtar were clinical against Leipzig and a similar performance should be enough for them to beat Celtic. Backing Shakhtar in the draw no bet market appeals in this fixture, as Celtic competed well for periods against Real Madrid and this could be a tight contest so this option ensures the bet is void rather than lost if the game ends honours even.
Both teams capable of scoring
Celtic may have drawn a blank against Real, but they have still hit 29 goals in just eight games this season so the Scottish giants should be able to find a way through.
Both teams have scored in Shakhtar’s last two games and three of their wins this season have been by one-goal margins, so a 2-1 win for the hosts appeals in the correct score market.
