Feyenoord 2-1

Reason for tip

Four of Feyenoord’s last five wins have been by a one-goal margin, including two victories by a 2-1 scoreline, while Shakhtar are unlikely to draw a blank having scored 11 in their last two Ukranian league games.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Feyenoord Predictions

  • Feyenoord are unbeaten in their last seven away games in all competitions
  • Shakhtar Donetsk have won one of their four ‘home’ matches in Warsaw this season
  • Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez is the joint top-scorer in this season’s Europa League with four goals

Shakhtar finding it hard to adapt

Shakhtar Donetsk scrapped into the Europa League last-16 via a penalty shootout win over Rennes, but their luck may run out when they host an in-form Feyenoord side.

Due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Shakhtar are having to play their European home games in the Polish capital Warsaw and have found wins hard to come by in their adopted home.

Their 2-1 victory over Rennes in the last round was their first victory in four attempts in Warsaw and although they enter this game on the back of a 7-0 win over Metalist 1925 in the Ukrainian league, Feyenoord are a step up in class.

Treble dreams driving Feyenoord on

Feyenoord have won their last six games, a run of results which has kept their treble ambitions on track, moving them three points clear at the top of the Eredivisie and booking their spot in the Dutch cup semi-finals.

Arne Slot’s men are in red-hot form and showed they can cut the mustard on the road in Europe last season when avoiding defeat in eight of their nine matches en route to reaching the Europa Conference League final.

Feyenoord had struggled to win on the road in Europe before last season and given the extra quality a side like Shakhtar brings to the table, any away win is likely to be by a narrow margin.

Gimenez to stay on goal trail

The Rotterdam-based outfit finished top of their Europa League group to book passage to the last-16 with Santiago Gimenez bagging some vital goals along the way.

The Mexican forward has four to his name in Europe and enters this fixture in good goalscoring form having netted in four of his last six outings.
